Musculoskeletal Procedures

Overview

Ultrasound is increasingly used for the evaluation of soft tissue structures associated with the musculoskeletal system, particularly tendons, ligaments, and muscle injuries.

Unlike radiographs, ultrasound allows dynamic assessment of these soft tissues and can detect fibre disruption, inflammation, or fluid accumulation.

Common indications include:

  • Tendon or ligament injuries
  • Muscle tears or strain injuries
  • Joint effusion assessment
  • Guidance for therapeutic injections or sampling procedures
  • Investigation of soft tissue swellings or masses associated with limbs

Ultrasound-guided procedures may also be performed to improve accuracy of diagnostic or therapeutic injections.
